E.C.E.-Early Childhood Education

Ellet's Early Childhood Care offers a valuable program in teaching juniors and seniors to become above average early childhood education teachers as well as offering a preschool licensed by the Ohio Department of Education.

Student Information

E.C.E. is an introductory three credit hour course. Junior year, the course provides student instruction in the operation and management of a preschool program. Senior year, the course provides student instruction in the assessment, Observing and Recording, Infant and Toddler Development in Early Childhood programs, and completion of the CDA portfolio through the afternoon preschool program. After completing the course, students will have a certification in multiple areas including CPR and first aid, volunteer experience with young children, the ability to receive credits with the University of Akron's Summit College, and job placement for students who meet eligibility requirements as seniors. Seniors will also graduate with a certificate in E.C.E from the state of Ohio upon completion of requirements.

Philosophy

The program we pursue is geared toward helping the child develop habits of observation, questioning, and listening. It gives the child an awareness of their rights to express those feelings by sometimes channeling them into other means of expression. The child learns that they are free to make choices, and that as long as they stay within the limits of consideration for people and things, they do not always have to conform. An open-ended program like ours prepares the child to utilize their intellectual and creative abilities.
