HSTW NE Ohio Region Celebrating 15 Years

Ellet High School and leaders were recognized as one of 15 high performing High Schools That Work sites during the 15 Year Celebration of HSTW NE Ohio Region, April 21, 2015 at NEOMED, Rootstown, Ohio. This recognition was based upon national, state and regional awards received over 15 years for school improvement efforts. Individual and site awards were presented by HSTW Ohio Network Board of Trustees, a non-profit organization comprised of district and building administrators and region and state leaders that supports middle and high school improvement efforts in northeast Ohio and statewide.

BookwormApril was National Library Week. May is “Get Caught Reading” Month and has Screen Free Week. Let the reading continue! We definitely have some readers here at EHS…A LOT OF BOOKWORMS! There were OVER 300 ballots and students & staff nominated over 90 different students for the 2015 “Ellet High School Orangemen Bookworm of the year. Ellet, Firestone and Hyre CLC are receiving the 2014 High Schools That Work (HSTW) High/Middle School Improvement Award.The honor comes in recognition of the progress made in improving school practices and raising student achievement.


On Saturday November 15, Ellet teacher Mr. Grassell won an open invitiational sudoku tournament held at the Main Branch of the Akron-Summit County Library.  Congratulations Mr. Grassell!

Ellet boys' basketball head coach Mark Fisher is hosting a fundraiser for the team. The event will take place at the second annual Dueling Piano Show on Saturday, October 11, at the Ellet bingo Hall (2204 E Market St.). Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show is from 8-11 p.m. Tickets are $25 each, and snacks/beer/pop will be provided. Congratulations to Mr. Boldry, who was named Akron Public Schools Teacher of the Year.  Mr. Bouldry teaches the Automotive Technology class.  Mr. Boldry has nine years of teaching under his belt, seven in his current position.  He is a member of the Association of Career Technical Educators and is a master technician in ASE (Automotive Service Excellence).

Our Career Education program is among the most innovative and best anywhere in any system. Mr. Boldry and his colleagues in Career Ed give APS a broader reach and allow us to offer a well-rounded curriculum to our students.

Mr. Boldry joins a long list of wonderfully talented educators who have earned this distinction and who we are blessed to have here at APS.

Ellet student Michael Moore had a tough hill to climb.  Due to some hard circumstances, his family became homeless.  Despite living in a car, Michael made it to graduation.

Commencement took place June 3 at 7pm.  Congratulations to the class of 2014!  Best wishes for the future from the entire Ellet High School community!

The City Series softball dynasty continues for Ellet. Make it 14 in a row and counting. Its latest city playoff championship proved to be one of the most dominating in that streak, as the Orangemen rolled to a 13-0 victory over Firestone in 4½ innings Tuesday at Firestone Stadium.

April is National Library Month and our Ellet High School Learning Resource Center was on the hunt for BOOKWORMS!- Yasmine (pictured right with Mrs. Clemens) took home the top prize. There were nearly 100 ballots turned in! Students and staff nominated over 70 different students and nearly 20 votes were tallied for teachers and almost 60 students had multiple votes… But our most nominated avid Orangeman readers were:

Mr. Neid's super-organic, gluten-free, fat-free pizzas can now be found in Acme Fresh Markets.  Mr. Neid, Ellet's economics teacher, is also a fitness enthusiast.  He has been making fat-free pizzas since 1991.

High School of Business WinsOn March 13-14, the Economic Research Project Team of Megan Delong and Michael Woodward won 1st place at the Ohio State Leadership Conference for Business Professionals of America.  With the assistance of the advisor Mrs. Nockengost, the team prepared a 5-page paper and speech on the topic of raising the minimum wage.

The school board honored the Ellet bowling teams at the March 24, 2014 meeting. Ellet girls went 5-0 in league play and defeated Firestone by 143 in the city championship held at Midway Lanes on February 11. Ellet boys went 5-0 in league play and took home the city crown for the second consecutive year as they out-distanced runner-up Firestone 3,142-2,694.   • The final day for students will be June 5. The final day for staff is June 6.
  • Five calamity days were provided by ODE, 3 additional calamity days will be made up by students completing Online Blizzard Lessons.
